In one of the scariest item announcements in recent years (ought to have done on Halloween, amirite?), Facebook divulged its video calling devices a month ago. The Portal and Portal+ are now beginning to ship to any individual who was sufficiently senseless to pre-order one, and you can even go out and buy them in shops.
Facebook guarantees us these items were "built with privacy and security in mind," however regardless I don't think I need a Facebook-associated eye anyplace in my home. Each to their own, however. The littler Portal has a 10-inch screen and costs $199, while the bigger, rotatable Portal+ goes for $349 — they're both Amazon Alexa-enabled.
You can get them from Facebook directly, Amazon (on the web and in Amazon Books stores), or Best Buy (Online and in-store). There's even a deal that gives you a chance to spare $100 when you purchase two Portal devices — why get one when you can get two? Fork it, why not by four? Or six? One for each room in the house.
